Adding Chiropractic Care To Your Health Routine

health routine

Most of us have heard about the benefits of chiropractic care when dealing with long-term, recurring, or sports injuries. Did you also know that adding in a regular routine of chiropractic care could also help to boost your immune system, increase your mobility and overall help you to feel better? In Colorado Springs, patients do not need to limit their visits to their local chiropractor only when they feel the need for pain management. Adding in regular chiropractic care is a natural health treatment option that can help to enhance your quality of life, both physically and mentally.

Feel Your Best

Regular adjustments, specifically to the spine, help to eliminate pain and stiffness caused by misalignments. Even patients that do not have severe pain symptoms can benefit from regular chiropractic adjustments. With less stiffness and rigidity in the joints, patients may feel an overall boost in energy and an overall sense of feeling better.

Lifestyle Changes

In addition to realignment through regular chiropractic adjustments, a chiropractor who focuses on overall wellness will provide you with tips and strategies to help you with lifestyle choices and approaches to improve your overall health. This is an important part of wellness chiropractic care. Even with regular visits, a chiropractor will only see and treat you for a very small portion of each week, but he or she can provide you with suggestions that can help you continue to experience the benefits of chiropractic care during the rest of your week if you implement them. Self-care directions may be given to help you with the following:

  • Stretching – exercises to help you alleviate muscle and joint stiffness and promote flexibility
  • Posture – instructions on how to help improve sitting and standing posture to keep your spine aligned
  • Exercise – suggestions on specific exercises and exercise modifications to assist with your areas of concern and overall total body health
  • Diet – in addition to exercise, suggestions on a healthy diet and menu options can help to boost immunity and promote weight management
  • Daily Routine – instructions to help you avoid further injury during regular movements (i.e. lifting and pulling techniques)

Stay Involved

When you hurt less, feel better, and have the ability to move more, you regain the ability to stay involved or it opens the door to getting involved in new activities. Whether you like to participate in high-energy sports, or low-impact activities such as walking or hiking, regular chiropractic care along with wellness guidance from a qualified chiropractic doctor can help you get on track to achieving your goals. Patients do not need to feel restricted by their pain and ailments. Regular personalized care can help you develop a plan for pain management, lifestyle choices, and establish realistic goals to help you achieve your overall target for health and wellness.

Live A Life Without Pain Through Chiropractic Treatment

Life Without Pain

Every year, more and more people live highly uncomfortable lives encumbered by pain without perhaps realizing that their pain is not only manageable but also treatable. By visiting a qualified and specialized chiropractor in Colorado Springs, many would not have to suffer this kind of pain.

How can chiropractors help?

Because of the kind of conditioning and messages we see daily, most people believe that chiropractors are specialists who only deal with back and neck pains. The truth of the matter is that the best chiropractors in Colorado Springs deal with a lot more than just neck and back pain. Fully trained and licensed chiropractors strive to restore and optimize human health.

While honestly, this often involves a lot of pain management to help patients achieve the best health, chiropractic treatment goes beyond just pain management. Adjustments to the body, beyond just the neck and back, helps the body to function better. In a nutshell, the best chiropractic adjustments give patients an opportunity to live a full life without pain, without hampered movements and with a full range of motion. Using a set of highly specialized skills, chiropractors:

  • Check for any type of misalignment in the patient’s skeletal structure.
  • Treat any fixations or abnormalities of movement, often referred to as vertebral subluxations.
  • Apply a gentle, corrective force to the affected area to bring the patient back to optimal health.
  • Advise the patient on how to prevent further or future injuries.
  • Rehabilitate and guide the patient back towards a pain-free existence.

The difference between a chiropractor and a medical doctor

While both chiropractors and medical doctors seek to bring patients back to good health, there is a distinct difference in how the each approaches the subject. With medical doctors, the approach is usually all about medication and treating the symptoms. Whereas, with the best chiropractors in Colorado Springs, it is all about a holistic approach–one that includes identifying, correcting and advising the patient on how to manage and get to the source of their health issues. The best chiropractors show the patient how to live a healthier, more injury-free life while enjoying a full range of motion and better physical, mental and spiritual health.

Short-term benefits of chiropractic care

By visiting a chiropractor regularly, the patient stands to experience a wide variety of benefits, including:

  • Increased mobility and improved range of motion.
  • Pain relief for arthritic joints.
  • Decreased muscle spasms and stiffness.
  • Better balance and coordination.
  • Enhanced healing.
  • Better physical performance as well as energy and enthusiasm.
  • Headache relief.
  • Improved immune system function

With professional and expertly delivered chiropractic adjustments in Colorado Springs, patients stand a chance to lead better lives free of physical pain and less emotional distress. From regular visits and excellently administered adjustments, muscle spasms, stiffness, limited mobility and poor physical performance can be a thing of the past. It might take a little bit of time, but persistence and continued treatments have helped millions achieve better health. Life Symmetry Chiropractic is committed to helping people live a full life without pain by providing the best possible individualized chiropractic treatments.

5 Little-Known Health Benefits of Using A Chiropractor In Colorado Springs

Spinal adjustments for therapeutic purposes has been around for more than 2,000 years. At this point, the benefits of excellent chiropractic care have been explored by millions of people worldwide.

Individuals who use the services of a good chiropractor in Colorado Springs often end up witnessing major improvements in several aspects of their daily lives that go well beyond their initial pain management objectives. Here are five of the lesser-known benefits associated with chiropractic services that many patients experience.

1. A Stronger Immune System.

Those who visit their chiropractors often report a higher level of wellness that can be correlated with a stronger immune system. They are more able to fight off a wide range of illnesses and find it easier to stay in good shape. This improvement can be linked to an increased functionality of the central nervous system, triggered and maintained through quality chiropractic care.

2. Increased Mobility.

Natural long-lasting pain relief goes hand in hand with increased mobility. As people age, they become less flexible and are forced to deal with a series of age-specific concerns, such as a reduced range of motion. Chiropractic care addresses this issue by alleviating pain and allowing patients to regain their flexibility. In order to maintain these benefits, people should also start exercising on a regular basis; nonetheless, the care provided by a good chiropractor gets them started and enables them to stay on the right path toward a healthier, more flexible body at any age.

3. Improved Digestion

.
When the central nervous system functions well, the digestive system also works normally. When one’s spine is perfectly aligned and all the messages sent to the brain are being transported and interpreted in an ideal manner, digestion takes place rapidly and efficiently. This is precisely why chiropractic care is seen as a wonderful solution to well-being and health-related problems by people who suffer from chronic constipation or obesity. Regular chiropractic sessions are reported to also help promote a healthy weight loss, allowing people to better reach their health goals.

4. Healthier Lifestyle Choices.

Good chiropractic care also motivates people to stay active and pay attention to a series of important aspects that they may have been neglecting for a long period of time, such as correct breathing techniques, meditation, or ideal posture. Improving any of those small things has a big impact on health.

5. Drug-Free, Longer-Lasting Pain Relief.

These days, more and more people choose to open their medicine cabinets every single time they have to deal with pains and aches. Prescription drugs can make their lives a whole lot easier but without actually tackling the real root of the problem. Unlike medication that only manages to address a series of symptoms, chiropractic care is focused on total healing. Through gentle movements and the expert guidance provided by a skilled chiropractor, people can benefit from a longer-lasting pain relief fueled by a perfect balance between body, mind, and soul.

Finding A Great Chiropractor In Colorado Springs

Today I wanted to share some thoughts about what makes the difference between a ‘good’ and a ‘great’ doctor. While I will talk specifically about chiropractors here, this information really applies to any doctor or health professional. And I hope you find it useful!

When experiencing health needs, many people think first of the actual expertise of their doctors—how much knowledge and experience they have.

This is, of course, important. A great doctor will attend to the health needs of his or her patients with an expert hand. But there are many other qualities that go into making a great health professional.

Finding a chiropractor in Colorado Springs should be more than simply finding an ‘expert’. I invite you to consider the following factors when choosing a chiropractor. Remember, when field expertise is combined with these positive attributes, the experience is sure to be a great one!

Personal Experience

It goes a long way when a chiropractor, simply put, also has a chiropractor. If he or she uses chiropractic treatment themselves, it means that the doctor truly believes in the benefits of their practice.

Patients can then take comfort in placing their health concerns in that doctor’s hands if the doctors themselves would also undergo that same treatment or use that treatment on their own family.

Unfortunately, more often than you may think, a doctor will say or prescribe something to their patients that they would not do for themselves or their own family. Don’t be afraid to ask if they were in your situation what they would do.

Doctors who personally use chiropractic treatment will be able to draw on years of experience as both a patient and a doctor. They will be able to provide stories of what has and has not worked for them personally, as well as for past patients. Overall, if they are well acquainted with their field from the patient’s perspective, this will lead to a better experience for the patient.

Creative Approach

One major benefit of chiropractic treatment is that it can be customized to fit the patient’s needs. However, if a doctor doesn’t take full advantage of that ability, the patient’s treatment plan will not be all it can be.

A good chiropractor in Colorado Springs will possess a creative mind. He or she will be able to take the patient’s concerns, health history, and previous experience with chiropractic and develop a plan that works for that individual.

He or she also must also be able to change that plan if the factors present for its creation change! If the plan isn’t working, a great chiropractor will be able to think creatively, not relying on one method or plan, in order to meet the patient’s needs. Thinking outside the box will go a long way when it comes to a great chiropractic experience. Not only will you get individualized care, but you will also know that you are more than just a file number to your chiropractor.

Communication Expert

So many Colorado Springs residents experience doctors who cannot interact well with patients, even if they are true ‘experts’. Whether it’s poor bedside manner or confusing ways of explaining concepts, a doctor who cannot communicate well limits the experience.

A great chiropractor in Colorado Springs will be able to listen well, explain difficult concepts effectively, and work toward total understanding. This may take creativity, but they will always seek to connect positively with patients.

Finding a great chiropractor starts with expertise, but it ends with so much more! If a good communicator is also creative and brings a personal connection to his or her work, it is likely that the patient will be pleased with their choice of doctor for chiropractic treatment.

In closing, I invite you to come in and experience chiropractic for yourself! I work to be so much more than just an expert. These factors that I mentioned are important to me and I strive to fulfill each of them with excellence!

Chiropractic Treatment – Common Conditions That Chiropractors Can Treat

A number of years ago, people claimed that nearly every disease and condition could be remedied with chiropractic treatment. While this is true to some extent because chiropractic treatment helps the whole body function better, it was sometimes taken to exaggeration and made chiropractors the odd-man-out in the medical community. They were ridiculed and viewed as quacks.

This was unfortunate because chiropractic does a lot of good. However, with such negative comments from many in the medical community (some of whom even tried to destroy chiropractic as a profession), many people refused to see the good that could be done by a chiropractor.

Thankfully, the winds are changing! More and more doctors, surgeons, physical therapists and other medical professionals are recognizing just how much good chiropractors can do.

6 Conditions That Can Be Treated with Chiropractic Adjustments

While a chiropractor is not able to cure diseases or treat every condition imaginable, the list of what they can accomplish is quite extensive. Here are just a few things that chiropractors are very successful at treating.

1. Back Sprains and Whiplash

Lifting, bending, twisting, playing—they all can result in a back sprain. The muscles and ligaments end up torn or overstretched resulting in some pretty incredible pain. A similar thing happens during a rear-end car accident—the neck is hyper-extended and sprained. A chiropractor can offer suggestions to help ease the pain.

2. Headaches

A patient dealing with TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorder may deal with chronic muscle and jaw joint pain. The pain can radiate throughout their face and head, and be very debilitating. Another cause of headaches is from neck pain. When a person’s neck is out of alignment, their head will ache around the temples, at the base of the skull, behind the eyes, and, of course, the neck. With gentle adjustments, a chiropractor can realign bones within the head and neck to both ease the pain and help prevent re-occurrences.

3. Tailbone Issues

Slipping and falling on one’s tailbone is an extremely painful experience. Pain can continue for years down the road from an injury like this. A chiropractor will make sure the bone isn’t cracked or sheared with x-rays. If not, adjustments can often ease the pain experienced from this type of injury.

4. Sciatica

The sciatic nerve runs down the back, buttocks, down the leg and to the knee. At times, the nerve can become inflamed and irritated, causing shooting, electric shock-like pain. A chiropractor can adjust the lower back and release the muscles to ease the pain.

5. Leg Length Discrepancies

If one leg is longer than the other, it can put an enormous amount of strain on the lower back, hips, knees and ankles. Oftentimes, the cause is not one leg physically being longer than the other but the result of bad posture. The chiropractor can help determine the cause and help correct the problem. Some things they may do is adjust the pelvis, recommend shoe inserts, and suggest exercises to ease pain and improve posture.

6. Degenerative Disc Disease or Herniated Disc

These conditions come about because of age, overuse, or accident. Chiropractors help patients avoid further damage through adjustments, exercises, and muscle relaxation techniques.

Finding Relief with Chiropractic Treatment

Whether a person has been in a car accident, has had a fall, or just woke up on the wrong side of the bed, a chiropractor can help get them out of pain. Chiropractic treatment is a valid form of treatment for anyone experiencing neuromusculoskeletal issues. Give us a call and give it a try today!

Who Can Benefit From Chiropractic Treatment In Colorado Springs?

Diverse people walking

The perfect functionality of the human body depends a great deal on an ideal balance between its systems and organs. Even a minor disrupting factor, such as a slightly misaligned spine, can become responsible for a wide range of complications, such as elevated stress levels, persistent discomfort, reduced productivity at work, irritability and so on.

Under these circumstances, chiropractic care is one of the best viable options for people who wish to restore their balance between mind, body and soul, and explore a more effective method to win the final battle with daily stressors. Here are a few of the most important categories of patients who should consider turning chiropractic treatment in Colorado Springs into an important element of their wellness routine.

Children

Even basic activities, such as contact sports, running and playing or even learning to walk, can put a lot of pressure on the spine. This is precisely why children of all ages should be seen by a chiropractor on a regular basis. Frequent appointments could help families identify and address a series of emerging problems related to the functionality of the nervous system in a timely fashion, and benefit from an effective treatment plan.
Families Seeking Alternative Methods to Improve Their Health. Chiropractic care can also benefit entire families seeking a safe method to improve their spinal health and boost their well-being while limiting the need for prescription drugs.

Pregnant Women

Women who are expecting a baby should consider opting for excellent chiropractic care in their area to make the most of an easier, safer pregnancy and delivery. Torsion within the pregnant woman’s pelvis can put a lot of stress on the fetus, potentially generating in-utero stress and increasing the risk of malposition. Through the best chiropractic care available in their area, pregnant women can keep these risks in check by making sure that their pelvis and spine are properly aligned.

Blue Collar Employees

Very few blue collar staff members pay attention to their posture and breathing techniques at work. This is why they should turn to gentle adjustments performed by a reputable chiropractor to boost their mobility, maintain their focus and elevate their productivity in their working environment, especially if they are exposed to pain linked to an incorrect posture or repetitive movements, which always end up causing neck and back problems.

Office workers are more susceptible to developing wrist problems and having to deal with neck aches and headaches, given that they are tied to their chairs for eight or more hours a day; the same goes for students, who have to stay seated for hours in a row while studying. Sitting puts much more tension on one’s spine than lying down or standing.

Seniors

As people age, they are forced to handle a number of health and wellness-related concerns, including a reduced ability to focus and a reduced mobility. Most of these issues can be addressed through quality chiropractic practices meant to increase energy, promote mobility, and prevent negative lifestyle changes associated with drug dependence.

From infants to the elderly, anyone can choose to discover the benefits of personalized chiropractic treatment to improve their spinal health and improve their overall quality of life rapidly and effortlessly.

Chiropractic Thots #2: What Can Chiropractic Help With?

Hey, Dr. Michael Schuneman here, chiropractor at Life Symmetry Chiropractic. Today’s chiropractic thot deals with a question that I hear a lot, “what can chiropractic help with?”

Most people have an idea that chiropractic can help with back pain, neck pain, headaches and things like that. Which is true. However, if you saw the first chiropractic thot video you learned that the first chiropractic patient was helped with his hearing and not pain! I want you to think about a couple of questions “what effect does reducing stress have on health?” and “what effect does strengthening the immune system have on health?”

As you’re thinking about those questions, we are going to get into a little more chiropractic history. That history deals with 1917-1918 Flu Epidemic which is one thing that helped lead to chiropractic being licensed in many states.

During 1917-1918 Flu Epidemnic it is estimated the flu was responsible for 500,000 deaths in the US alone. To put that in perspective currently that is a little less than deaths from heart disease or cancer in the US each year. Those are currently the #1 and #2 causes of death in the US.

During flu epidemic people started noticing that chiropractic patients had much better outcomes than medical patients. Here are a few stats, in Davenport, Ia where chiropractic had its start, medical doctors treated 4,953 cases with 274 deaths. That is not bad, it’s a 94.47% survival rate. However, chiropractors in Davenport saw 1,635 cases with only one death. That is a survival rate of 99.94%! Now if you are like me when you hear a statistic like that you may think, “Okay but they probably weren’t getting the bad cases of flu.” Not necessarily. In Oklahoma there were 233 flu cases that had been treated by medical doctors and given up as hopeless, that were then treated by chiropractors and all survived except 25. That is an 89.27% survival rate for a group that were given up as dead! That is amazing!

How can this be? Well, the nervous system coordinates and controls all functions in the body, including the immune system. Besides this historical evidence there have been a few studies that have shown that after a chiropractic adjustment the immune system is strengthened.

When the spine is misaligned or not moving properly, what we call a ‘spinal subluxation’ in chiropractic terms, it affects how well the nervous system functions. Spinal subluxations cause interference with the information sent through the nervous system and the body cannot function at its best because of blocked or garbled signals. Think of trying to give someone directions over a bad cell phone connection and you’ll get the idea.

So to answer what can chiropractic help with? It can help the body overall to function better and therefore I sincerely believe it can help with any health problems! Now I want to be clear, that does not mean that chiropractic is a ‘treatment’ for every disease or will solve every health problem. Chiropractic does not treat a disease or illness like medicine, but it does help the body to function better and that allows the body to heal itself.

I hope you enjoyed this video! Please hit the like button below and leave a comment of what you thought or any questions that you may have. Thanks! We’ll see you on the next thot.

How Can A Chiropractor In Colorado Springs Help With Sports Injuries?

football game

In Colorado, sports-related injuries are the bane of most physically active people – both the competitive ones and the hobbyists who are just seeking the delight of an endorphin rush or a friendly game with their teammates.

Fatigued muscles, sprained ankles, and even broken bones can result either from the very nature of some sports, or from overtraining and poor equipment. Suffering from one of these can be followed by weeks of inactivity, which is frustrating for the budding athlete.

Nevertheless, in almost all scenarios the health benefits of physical activity far surpass the risks involved – and these risks can be minimized by following proper warm up and cool down routines, investing in quality equipment, and other discipline-specific measures. In addition, seeing a chiropractor in Colorado Springs can provide an extra protection against injury.

The First Job Is Always Prevention

Have you heard the saying an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure? It is always easier and cheaper to prevent an accident than to repair it – and this applies to sports injuries as well. Just like warm-ups and stretching are meant to prevent muscle damage while exercising, the first chance a chiropractor has to help an athlete deals with preventing injury.

A lot of serious injuries result from pre-existing back, ankle, knee, or hip misalignments or muscle imbalances – often minimal enough that they go unnoticed until something happens. A full evaluation with a chiropractor in Colorado Springs before beginning a new exercise program will help identify and deal with these lurking dangers and help prevent more serious injury.

Maintenance is Good for Bodies as Well as Vehicles

Usually, it is trauma injuries – broken bones and torn ligaments – that are the ones that get all the attention. However, many amateur athletes often end up missing more workouts because of chronic injuries, such as sore muscles, overexertion syndrome, and back or neck problems. These are particularly common among endurance sports, and are often seen in joggers, swimmers, and cyclists.

A regular routine of chiropractic care helping keep the back and other joints in alignment can be fundamental in preventing normal muscle exertion from growing into a chronic injury. People who are training for a competitive milestone or are beginning to get serious about a sport – for example, those seeking to run their first 5K – might also find this helps improve their performance.

Once The Injury Has Happened, Rehabilitation is Possible

Sometimes, even the most safety-conscious athlete will find themselves suffering a serious trauma injury. Here in Colorado, it is not uncommon to hear of ski trips or mountain treks that end up in the E.R., and are followed by several weeks of forced rest – even after the cast or bandages are off.

Chiropractors play a fundamental role in getting these athletes back to the field. Physical rehabilitation is often the key aspect that will determine if healing will be complete, as well as help reduce the time frame for it.

Finding a chiropractor in Colorado Springs can help you prevent injury, maintain physical form, and – should it be necessary – help in post-injury rehabilitation. It will be an excellent guarantee to avoid missing the entire season.

Chiropractic Treatment In Colorado Springs: Not A One-Size-Fits-All Solution

I think in most people’s minds, chiropractic treatments have become synonymous with back alignments and the “popping sound” in one’s back that usually accompanies them – a mental image that may be off-putting for some. However, there are many types of chiropractic techniques that can be used, just as there are many types of back problems and many types of patients. A quick look at some of the different alternatives available will show this respected discipline to be remarkably diverse and flexible.

Manual Back Adjustments – Direct Thrust Technique

These are the first ones that often come to mind when thinking of chiropractic treatment in Colorado Springs. They often involve the patient lying back-up on an examination table, where the chiropractor can apply a quick, low-amplitude thrust to correct back misalignments or subluxations. Although these types of adjustments often produce a popping sound, that is not a sign of anything wrong, and the sound itself is not necessary for the treatment to be effective.

Instrument-Assisted Adjustment

Certain types of injury may require the use of specific devices in order to help adjust in a gentler or more localized way. Some patients also respond better to adjustments given this way. One such instrument is known as the Activator, which is particularly useful when tight muscles are involved. A chiropractor uses the Activator to deliver taps of varying force to adjust the spine or help the relax tight muscles.

Likewise, the use of drop tables can also assist a chiropractor to perform a manual adjustment more efficiently. These tables have specific sections that can be raised and then dropped to help with back alignment and adjustments.

Spinal Mobilization

Young children or adults with osteoporosis, who are not eligible for a normal direct thrust adjustments, can receive a spinal mobilization treatment. Through stretches and gentle pressure, spinal mobilization targets the same types of lesions as direct thrust techniques.

Myofascial Release and Massage

Unlike a standard relaxation-oriented massage, a chiropractic myofascial release will target specific stiff trigger points in the myofascial tissue – the membranes that cover the body’s muscles – that may be causing pain around the body.

Through an examination, the chiropractor will first identify where a trigger point is located – as they often are not right at the same place as the pain. The aim of the treatment is to release tension in the trigger point and soothe pain.

Spinal Decompression

Though not a standard part of chiropractic services, spinal decompression is often offered as a chiropractic treatment in Colorado Springs. This is a non-surgical technique best suited for herniated discs, sciatica, or for patients with treatment-resistant tingling in the extremities. This treatment aims to release the tension between discs, sometimes even repositioning bulging discs, therefore relieving the associated pain.

Many chiropractic patients seek out relief that goes beyond the standard back or neck pain. Chiropractors have at their disposal a wide range of techniques they can adapt, in order to work with each patient to find the unique method or combination of techniques that works best for each patient’s needs.
